Whether you’re going to a Christmas party with colleagues, a cocktail with your girls or having a romantic dinner date with your love, there are bound to be a few photo moments. And the worst is when your makeup causes a photo fail and you have to quickly de-tag yourself from that awful photo on Facebook for fear that your friends will see it.

Your pose is just one aspect of taking a great picture, but your makeup is even more important, that’s why I’ve put together these tips to help you get ready for photos.

Prime your skin

When applying makeup, it’s always best to work with a “clean slate”. Primer is used to create even skin so that you can apply foundation more easily. Choose a primer that’s contains light reflecting parts so that the camera flash appears soft on your skin.

HD Foundation

Foundation is used to cover up blemishes, scars and marks; HD (High Definition) foundation is used on movie stars when on camera as it hides almost all flaws. HD foundation is perfect for those photo moments as it is almost invisible.

Concealer

Concealer is used to cover up dark under eye circles and is a very important step in makeup application. Find a concealer in the right tone, as a too light or too dark concealer can be a nightmare in photos. There are also concealers on the market that adapt to your skin tone if you are not sure which shade you should use.

Blush And Bronzer

Blush and bronzer give the face definition. The trick is to first apply bronzer to your cheekbones and along your jaw line and then finish off by applying blush to the apples of your cheeks.

False Lashes

Although false lashes may look a bit too dramatic in person, they look really good in photos. First practice applying them beforehand with the lash glue provided. Make sure to apply them securely to avoid them falling off.

Teeth Whitener

A white shiny smile is always attractive but don’t overdo the whitening or it will look fake. Try whitening strips or if you don’t have time to whiten your teeth, apply a blue tinted lip gloss as it makes the teeth appear whiter.

Oil Free Skin

Another No-No for photos is shiny skin, but avoid using face powder as it will make your skin look dull in photos. Rather blot away oil with blotting sheets.

After you’ve applied all these beauty tips, practice your pose in the mirror and when photo time comes, you’ll definitely have all camera lenses on you!
